Profile
Dr. Chukwunonso Okolo is an accomplished Electrical and Electronic Engineer, power and energy executive, and project development specialist with extensive experience spanning power generation and distribution, gas infrastructure, oil and gas, electrical engineering, telecommunications, research, and major infrastructure development.
He currently serves as the Managing Director of Geometric Power Aba Limited (GPAL), where he provides strategic and operational leadership for the company’s power generation business and its associated infrastructure. In this capacity, he is responsible for driving business strategy, operational performance, asset reliability, engineering and maintenance coordination, stakeholder engagement, commercial performance, regulatory relationships, and the overall delivery of the company’s objectives.
His leadership encompasses the coordination of multidisciplinary teams across engineering, operations, maintenance, production, quality, logistics, commercial and corporate functions.
Dr. Okolo has played a significant role in the development and delivery of the Aba Integrated Power Project, one of Nigeria’s major privately developed integrated power projects. Prior to assuming his current executive leadership position, he served in progressively senior roles within the Geometric Power Group, including Director, Project Development; Principal Manager, Project Development; Senior Technical Assistant to the CEO; and Project Development Manager.
In these roles, he provided strategic, technical and project-management leadership across critical components of the Aba power project. His responsibilities included coordinating Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors; overseeing project schedules, budgets, quality and risk; supporting the completion and commissioning of the power plant, gas infrastructure, substations and 33kV distribution infrastructure; managing relationships with contractors, vendors and government agencies; and supporting regulatory, permitting, gas-supply and wayleave matters.
He has also provided technical and engineering support to the revenue monitoring and loss-prevention activities of Aba Power Limited Electricity Company.
Career Experience
His professional career also includes experience as a Senior Electrical Project Engineer at Business Development Technology Solutions Limited, where he worked on electrical engineering design and project delivery.
He previously served as a Network Monitoring Engineer at Galaxy Backbone, where he was involved in network monitoring, incident management and restoration of customer services.
Earlier in his career, he gained industrial exposure with the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), supporting electrical and electronics maintenance activities and field operations involving oil and gas infrastructure.
Education & Research
Dr. Okolo combines his practical industry experience with a strong academic and research background. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Cardiff University, United Kingdom, where his doctoral research focused on the modelling and experimental investigation of magnetic flux leakage for the detection and characterisation of hairline cracks.
He also holds a First Class Honours Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Cardiff University and completed an International Foundation Programme in Engineering at the same institution.
His doctoral research resulted in peer-reviewed publications in the fields of electromagnetic sensing and non-destructive testing, including publications in AIP Advances and the International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics, as well as presentations at international engineering conferences including the IEEE Sensors conference.
