Heirs Energies, the natural gas supplier to the 188MW Geometric Power Plant in Aba, Abia State, has completed turnaround maintenance at its Associated Gas Gathering (AGG) facilities in Agbada, Rivers State, paving the way for the resumption of gas supply to the power plant.
Managing Director of Geometric Power Aba Limited (GPAL), Dr. Chukwunonso Okolo, confirmed the development, noting that gas supply to the plant had resumed and electricity restoration was progressing across the Aba Ring-Fenced Area.

According to Dr. Okolo, the interruption in gas supply over the past several days significantly affected electricity generation and, consequently, homes, businesses and other economic activities within the Aba area.
“Heirs Energies has commenced the release of gas to us, and power supply has already been restored to several parts of the Aba Ring-Fenced Area,” he said.
He added that Aba Power is also addressing localized network faults affecting some feeders as electricity supply is progressively restored across the nine local government areas within the ring fence.
The recent supply challenges followed maintenance and operational issues affecting gas infrastructure serving the Geometric Power Plant. The completion of the turnaround maintenance is therefore expected to improve the stability of gas supply to the facility.
Industry experts have also highlighted the broader challenges associated with ageing gas infrastructure in parts of the Eastern gas network.
Power sector consultant Engr. Dike Ejike noted that recent interventions by Heirs Energies, including work on critical gas infrastructure and the turnaround maintenance at the Agbada facilities, represent important steps towards improving the reliability of gas supply to industrial and power-generation customers.
Similarly, Engr. Chike Madueke, a chemical engineer and energy industry practitioner, observed that some gas infrastructure serving the region has been in operation for several decades, underscoring the need for sustained investment, rehabilitation and expansion.
The resumption of gas supply is a positive development for Geometric Power and Aba Power customers, following the recent period of constrained generation.
Geometric Power continues to work with its gas supplier and other stakeholders to support a more reliable fuel supply arrangement for the Aba power project, while Aba Power continues restoration and network maintenance activities across its coverage area.
